SEO consultant for Christchurch and Canterbury businesses
Big-agency SEO without the big-agency structure. I work directly with businesses across Ōtautahi Christchurch, Selwyn and Waimakariri to rank higher on Google, show up in the map pack and turn more searches into calls.
Christchurch's search market rewards local depth
A rebuilt city, fast-growing satellite towns and customers who search by suburb.
Christchurch is a different search market from Auckland or Wellington. The rebuild after the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes shifted where people live and where businesses cluster: commercial activity spread out to Hornby, Riccarton, Addington, Sydenham and Papanui, while Rolleston, Lincoln, Rangiora and Kaiapoi grew into major residential areas of their own.
That spread shows up in search behaviour. A homeowner in Rolleston searching for a plumber sees a different map pack from someone in Merivale. If your Google Business Profile, website and reviews don't clearly connect you to the areas you serve, you're invisible to a large share of Canterbury customers even when you rank for the city name.
The good news is that competition for SEO itself is lighter here than in Auckland, and local demand is strong. Here's what people searched for each month across a few Christchurch services:
| Search term | Searches per month |
|---|---|
| dentist christchurch | 3,600 |
| physio christchurch | 2,900 |
| electricians christchurch | 1,300 |
| builders christchurch | 1,300 |
| plumbers christchurch | 880 |
| lawyers christchurch | 880 |
| roofers christchurch | 590 |
Who I help in Canterbury
Most of my Christchurch work falls into three groups, each with a different route to page one.
-
Trades and construction
Builders, electricians, roofers and renovation firms who grew with the rebuild and now need a steady flow of residential work. The priority is the map pack in your service area and one strong page per job type.
SEO for trades and industries -
Health and professional services
Clinics, dentists, accountants and law firms in a market where trust decides who gets the call. That means strong E-E-A-T signals, practitioner pages and reviews that mention what you're known for.
Local SEO and Google Business Profile -
Manufacturers, agritech and ecommerce
Canterbury businesses selling nationally or overseas, where the competition isn't the shop down the road but every other supplier in Australasia. Here technical SEO, category structure and content win.
Shopify and ecommerce SEO
SEO services for Christchurch businesses
The same senior-level work I do for Auckland clients, tuned for Canterbury's suburbs and towns.
-
Canterbury local SEO
Google Business Profile optimisation, service-area setup for Christchurch, Selwyn and Waimakariri, citation clean-up and a review process that keeps your profile active.
-
Technical SEO audit
Crawl, indexing, speed and Core Web Vitals fixes, so the work you put into content actually gets seen. Most sites I audit have at least one issue quietly capping their rankings.
-
Keyword research and service pages
I find the searches Canterbury customers use for each of your services and build or rewrite a page that deserves to rank for them, with real projects, photos and FAQs.
-
Local authority and links
Links and mentions from Canterbury business associations, suppliers, local media, sponsorships and community organisations. Relevant local links carry real weight in a regional market.
-
AI search optimisation
Structured data, consistent business information and answer-first content so ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews recommend you when someone asks for the best option in Christchurch.
-
SEO migration
Planning a new website? I'll map every URL and manage the redirects so you keep the rankings your current site has earned.
Why hire a consultant from Auckland?
A fair question. Here's the honest answer.
There are good SEO agencies in Christchurch. If you want someone in your office every week, one of them may suit you better. What I offer is different: the person with the senior experience is the person who does your work. I cap my business at 20 clients, so you're never one of hundreds of accounts.
Everything that affects your rankings happens online: your website, your Google Business Profile, your reviews and the sites that link to you. I manage all of it through shared access, video calls and a live reporting dashboard. Canterbury clients get exactly the same attention as the business down the road from me in East Auckland.
Where local knowledge matters, such as which suburbs your customers come from, which local directories carry weight and which community links are worth earning, I learn it from you in our first call and from the search data itself. That's part of every engagement, not an extra.
Christchurch SEO questions
Can you rank us in Rolleston, Rangiora and the wider Canterbury area?
Yes. I set up your Google Business Profile service areas correctly, build location content where you have genuine work in those towns, and track rankings by area so we can see exactly where you're visible. Satellite towns are often easier to win than central Christchurch, and the customers are just as valuable.
How much does SEO cost for a Christchurch business?
It depends on your competition and your website's starting point, not your postcode. Many Christchurch markets are less contested than Auckland, which can mean results with a smaller monthly investment. See SEO pricing for how I structure engagements. You'll get a fixed quote after a free strategy call.
Do we need to meet in person?
No. Most of my clients prefer video calls because they're quicker to fit around a working day. If an in-person workshop would genuinely help, for example to plan a large website rebuild, we can arrange one.
How quickly will we see results?
Google Business Profile and technical improvements often show within weeks. Ranking gains for your main service keywords typically take 3 to 6 months. Because many Christchurch niches are less competitive than Auckland's, timelines here are often at the faster end.
What's the difference between an SEO consultant and an SEO agency?
An agency has a team: sales, account managers, specialists and often junior staff doing the hands-on work. A consultant is one senior specialist who does the work personally. Agencies can take on bigger volumes; a consultant gives you direct access to expertise and faster decisions. For most small and mid-sized Canterbury businesses, the consultant model is better value.
