SEO for every website platform
The principles of SEO are the same everywhere. The way you implement them isn't. Each platform has its own limits, defaults and traps, and I work hands-on in all of the major ones used by New Zealand businesses.
Platform-specific SEO
What I typically fix on each platform, and what to know before you choose one.
-
WordPress SEO
The most flexible platform for SEO, and the easiest to slow down. I clean up plugin bloat, theme speed issues, duplicate archive pages and SEO plugin settings, then build out content properly.
-
Shopify SEO
Fixed URL structures, collection-based duplicate product URLs and app-heavy themes are the usual issues. I optimise collections, product templates, structured data and speed.
-
Wix SEO
Wix's SEO tools have improved a lot. Most Wix sites underperform because of thin pages, weak titles and slow, image-heavy layouts rather than the platform itself.
-
Squarespace SEO
Clean templates and good defaults, with fewer controls for advanced technical SEO. I focus on page structure, on-page optimisation, content and local signals.
-
Webflow SEO
Clean code and full control over metadata and CMS structure. The gaps are usually schema, internal linking and content depth, which I set up end to end.
-
Weebly SEO
I can improve rankings within Weebly's limits, and help you plan an SEO-safe move to a more capable platform when the time comes.
Does your platform affect your rankings?
Less than most people think, until you hit its limits.
Google doesn't rank websites higher because they're built on a particular platform. A well-optimised Wix site will outrank a neglected WordPress site every time. What a platform does affect is how easily you can fix technical issues, how fast your pages load, and how much control you have over URLs, structured data and templates.
If you're happy with your platform, I'll work within it. If you're considering a change, talk to me before you commit: a platform move is a website migration, and planning the SEO migration early protects the rankings you already have.
I also teach this. My WordPress SEO Simplified course shows web designers how to build WordPress sites that are ready to rank from launch.
