SEO Auckland: senior SEO services without the agency overhead
Auckland has the most competitive search market in New Zealand. I help Auckland businesses win it with suburb-level local SEO, technically sound websites and pages that answer what buyers actually search, all done by me rather than handed down an agency chain.
Why SEO in Auckland is harder than anywhere else in NZ
More businesses, more agencies, and a city so spread out that Google treats each part of it as its own local market.
Roughly a third of New Zealanders live in Auckland, and the city's business owners know it. For almost any service you can name, there are dozens of competitors already investing in Google Ads and SEO. On top of that, Google personalises local results by location. Someone searching "electrician" in Albany sees a different map pack from someone searching the same word in Manukau, more than 30 kilometres away.
That means generic, city-wide SEO rarely works here. To rank in Auckland you need three things at once:
- Local relevance for the areas you actually serve, built through your Google Business Profile, reviews and location signals.
- Page-level relevance: one strong page per service that fully answers the search, instead of a single "Services" page trying to rank for everything.
- Authority from real New Zealand websites that link to you, so Google trusts you over the next result.
The upside is that the demand is enormous. Here's what Aucklanders searched for every month across a few common local services:
| Search term | Searches per month |
|---|---|
| physio auckland | 4,400 |
| plumbers auckland | 2,900 |
| bathroom renovation auckland | 1,600 |
| landscapers auckland | 1,300 |
| electricians auckland | 1,000 |
| builders auckland | 1,000 |
| roofers auckland | 720 |
Those figures are for the head term alone. Suburb, "near me" and specific-job searches usually add several times as much again, and they convert better because the searcher already knows what they need.
Local SEO across every part of Auckland
I build your visibility around where your customers are, not around a pin on the map. These are the areas I most often optimise for.
-
North Shore and Rodney
Albany, Takapuna, Browns Bay, Glenfield, Devonport, Ōrewa and Silverdale. High household incomes and strong demand for home services, health and professional advice.
-
Central and West Auckland
The CBD, Ponsonby, Newmarket, Parnell, Mt Eden, Henderson, New Lynn and Kumeū. Dense competition for professional services, hospitality and retail.
-
East and South Auckland
Howick, Botany, Pakuranga, Dannemora, East Tāmaki, Manukau, Papakura, Takanini and Pukekohe. My home patch, and the heart of Auckland's trades and industrial economy.
For businesses that genuinely serve several areas, I create location pages only where there's something real and different to say: local projects, photos, reviews from that suburb, travel times, and area-specific services. Thin pages that swap one suburb name for another don't rank for long, and Google's spam policies treat them as doorway pages.

Auckland SEO questions, answered
Do you offer local SEO for specific Auckland suburbs?
Yes. I optimise your Google Business Profile and website for the areas you serve, track rankings by suburb so you can see where you're winning, and build location pages where there's genuinely distinct content for them. A business in East Tāmaki and one on the North Shore need different signals, and I treat them that way.
Can you optimise our Google Business Profile?
It's usually the first thing I do for local clients. I make sure the listing is verified, the name, address and phone match your website exactly, the primary and secondary categories are right, services and products are filled in, and photos are current. Then we set up a simple process for earning reviews, which is one of the strongest map pack signals.
How long does SEO take to work in Auckland?
Expect early movement within a few weeks of technical and Google Business Profile fixes, and meaningful ranking gains in 3 to 6 months. Highly contested Auckland terms can take 6 to 12 months. New websites take longer than established ones. I've also seen a brand new site in a competitive niche win its first organic lead in its first week, so it depends heavily on the keywords we target first.
How much does SEO cost in Auckland?
It depends on how competitive your services are and how much work your site needs. Auckland is the most competitive market in the country, so a plumber targeting the whole city needs more investment than one targeting a few suburbs. See my SEO pricing page for how engagements are structured, and you'll get a fixed monthly quote after a free strategy call.
Do you guarantee first-page rankings?
No one can honestly guarantee a specific ranking by a specific date, because Google's algorithm is outside anyone's control. What I guarantee is full transparency on what I'm doing and why, and a strategy built around keywords where page one is realistic for your business.
Do you handle technical SEO and Core Web Vitals?
Yes. Site speed, Largest Contentful Paint, Interaction to Next Paint, layout shift, crawl errors, broken links, mobile usability, HTTPS and schema markup are all part of the work. I can make the changes directly in your CMS or write clear instructions for your developer.
Will you write the content, or do we need to?
Either works. I can write service pages, articles and product descriptions for you, or brief your team and then optimise what they write. AI tools help me with research and outlines, but nothing goes live without being written and edited for Kiwi readers and checked by me.
How do you build links? Is it white-hat?
Always. I earn links through digital PR, outreach to relevant New Zealand publishers, supplier and association listings, resource pages and unlinked brand mentions. I don't buy links or use private blog networks. A handful of links from real NZ websites usually beats hundreds of low-quality ones.
Can you help if our site was hit by a Google update?
Yes. I've recovered several websites hit by core updates. I start by analysing your backlinks for toxic patterns, then review content quality and technical health, and build a recovery plan that improves the signals Google is weighing, including experience, expertise, authority and trust.
Will we be locked into a long-term contract?
No. I recommend a minimum of six months because SEO takes time to show results, and we'll agree a 6 to 12 month roadmap at the start. After that it's month to month with reasonable notice. I'd rather keep clients because the results are obvious.
